Winter Rose Care

If you haven't taken care of your roses yet, do it before the end of this month. I like to cut the canes back so they don't get damaged by the wind. Pull all of the leaves off your roses and cut back canes that have black spot. It doesn't matter what this pruning does to the shape of the rose bush. You have to cut out the black spot. Clean your pruning shears with alcohol after each bush. This is not a full pruning. That happens in March. Be sure to clean around your rose bushes thoroughly. Do not let a leaf stay on the ground near your roses.
